We’re not dead! I promise!
Hi. Ken here. It’s been a while since we posted anything here, but there’s a reason for that. Ted and I have both been super busy this year, not just with the next version of Hexels, but with other projects, like Ted’s work on Crypt of the NecroDancer and my Ph.D work. (I’m supposed to defend in November!). But that doesn’t mean we haven’t been giving Hexels a lot of love. In fact, our next version is going to have two big features that everyone’s been requesting:
If you’re like 90% of the people who use Hexels, you think “it’s great, but I sure wish it had layers!”. Well, we agree. In fact, we agreed back in December when we started work on it! Here’s a picture of our layers window with programmer art on it. You can even export the whole thing to a Photoshop file and preserve the layers.
In the process of adding layers, it became pretty obvious that if, instead of smushing all the layers together and showing them at once, we could show them one at a time in sequence, we’d get some sort of moving picture type deal.
There’s more cool new stuff, like a new shape mode, X-els:
And even a built-in scripting language if you’re into that sort of thing.
That’s enough words for tonight. If you’re still reading, you probably want to try it out already. Well, you can! If you bought Hexels Pro, that is.
To use this public beta, you must have a license key purchased from our website. Sorry, Mac App Store users, the MAS doesn’t have a beta option. You will get your layers and animation when the new version is finally released, though!
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your support. Hexels has been way more successful than either Ted or I had hoped, and we want to take it to the next level with this new version. And, in case you’re wondering, the update will be free (:
P.S. My apologies for the atrocious layout of this post. Getting web things to go exactly where I want them is not my strong suit!
