Goodies!
On this page, you’ll find a variety of things related to our apps that we’d like to share with you.
The HXL File Format: I’ve had a number of people ask about the details of the Hexels file format. I’m not a big fan of closed, proprietary formats, so here are the details of the Hexels format. It doesn’t include info for individual render modes, but everything else is there.
Image2HXL:

Image import is one of our most-requested features, and it will be available in Hexels 1.2 with several options to give you control over the process. For now, though, we’re giving you Image2HXL. It’s a very small utility program that takes an image file and creates a Hexels file directly from its pixels. It doesn’t perform any scaling or anything, just maps each pixel to a hexel. (i.e. a 64×64 image will produce a file with 64×64 hexels.) Works best using the Pixels custom shape. Available for both Mac and Windows. Disclaimer: No guarantees of any sort come with this app. It’s been tested by multiple people, but use it at your own risk.
